Neighbors Checklist: Landlords

  • Rehab, don’t demo, unless it’s an abomination. Whatever you build, make your neighbors proud to live next to your building.
  • If you buy a building, try to buy a mixed-use building and rent the commercial space to a neighborhood-positive business.
  • If you rent space in a building you own, live in the building or at least the neighborhood.
  • Get rid of the fence in front of your building, or at least minimize it to make your building approachable.
  • Follow the building code.
  • Turn your common spaces, like the stairwell or vestibule or yard, into art galleries that showcase local artists.
  • Install an easy-access bicycle and stroller room for everyone.
